Santa Fe Farmers' Market Institute Film Series
Please join us Wednesday, May 18 at 7 pm for NICOTINE BEES, the final film in our 2011 Wednesday Night Movie Series. More than just a movie, the evening also features discussions, exhibits, and opportunities for moviegoers to meet, greet, and collaborate--all while enjoying FREE foods with local ingredients, chosen and prepared for the theme of the night. Guest speakers lead discussions bringing movie topics home to the community level.
Filmed on three continents, NICOTINE BEES leads viewers through the "mystery" of massive, simultaneous bee die offs--and the scientific evidence pointing to one common link. All over the world, at the same time and with the same bizarre symptoms, bees leave their hives, abandon their young and simply disappear. Using evidence from Europe, India, Canada and dozens of US states, this documentary systematically rules out possible causes to find one underlying common explanation for this phenomenon known as "bee colony collapse". With one third of our food supply at risk, along with the demise of the honeybee, this film inspires our attention and our action!
"Nicotine Bees unveils the truth behind the "mystery" of world wide bee colony collapse"
Running Time: 80 minutes (2009)
Loretta McGrath of Bee Genius Honey, and Director of the New Mexico Pollinator Project will be the guest speaker following the film. Members of the Sangre de Cristo Beekeepers will also be on hand with a hive and samples of local honey.
FREE Movie fare includes a tasty sweets sampler using local honey donated by Flying Star Café in the Railyard, and veggie pizza bites donated by La Montanita Coop.
Admission is $12 for the General Public; $10 for Institute Members, Seniors, and Students with IDs; $6 for those under 18; and free for Market Vendors. Filmgoers may become Institute Members on Movie Night and receive an immediate discount.
