"The Future of Food & Seed" with Dr. Vandana Shiva

Time: 7:00 pm lecture, doors open at 6:00 pm

Tickets: Event is free; donations welcomed. Seating is on first come basis.

Parking: After 6pm, parking is free on campus in lots A and the meters. City parking on the streets around UNM is free after 6 pm.

Before 6 pm, you must pay for parking at either the meters or in the parking structure. If you park in the parking structure, you will be charged on an hourly basis.

Dr. Vandana Shiva is one of the world's most renowned environmentalists. In 2003, Time magazine named her an environmental hero and Asia Week has called her one of Asia's five most powerful communicators. Dr. Shiva pioneered the contemporary organic movement in India and established Navdanya, the country's biggest network of seed keepers and organic producers. Her books include Soil Not Oil, Earth Democracy, Water Wars, Stolen Harvest, Biopiracy, and Staying Alive.

She has received many awards including the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize), Order of the Golden Ark, Global 500 Award of the UN, Earth Day International Award, and the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace. She serves on many boards including the World Future Council, International Forum on Globalisation, and Slow Food International.

Dr. Shiva trained as a physicist and earned her Ph.D. on "Hidden Variables and Non-locality in Quantum Theory" at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. She later shifted to inter-disciplinary research in science, technology, and environmental policy at the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India.
