Ice's Organic Farm
July 21, 2011The Ice Organic Farm in Alcalde is home to Ron and Gayle Ice, who claim to be retired. Farming, of course, is a case of more work than one was probably doing before one retired, but who's quibbling. They have a lovely small place on the river just above Los Luceros. For a while Gayle ran a tea room out of her home, which became locally quite famous, but also became more work than she had anticipated, so this year she didn't reopen it; it'll be missed. But that means she can spend more time growing her flowers and herbs and turning a lot of Ron's produce into unusual jams and jellies (if you've never tried corncob jelly, you need to) and herbal vinegars. Ron grows everything he can on two acres, plus he has a small greenhouse to try to get a jump on the season with. The farm is certified Organic, by the way!
