Protein Plus logoComing September 2026 — the NMFMA’s new Protein-Plus program! Protein-Plus will provide qualifying individuals with a 50% discount when buying NM-grown meat, nuts, and eggs. There will be a $20 per transaction limit. Check back in September for market and farm stand locations!
How Customers Qualify:
Customers must participate in at least one of the programs listed below and be residents of New Mexico.
Must Say “Yes” to at Least One Category Program Examples
Do you sometimes worry that the money you have for food will run out by the end of the month? SNAP, food bank/ food pantry, New Mexico Works, FDIPR/ commodity food boxes, college food security programs, or if you generally experience food insecurity
Do you have a child in your household that receives extra meal support? Head Start, After-School Snack Program, At-Risk After-School Meals, other
Do you receive Medicaid or fresh fruits and vegetables from your health clinic? Medicaid (Turquoise Care), Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Programs
Are you a senior that receives help with meals at home or in senior centers? Congregate Meals, Meals on Wheels, senior produce/food box programs
Do you receive disability assistance? Social Security Income
Are you currently active duty enlisted in the military or a veteran? Active-duty enlisted military, veterans

How Protein-Plus Works:

  • Customers will get a Protein-Plus Loyalty Card by filling out a short form at the market’s information table, or with the retailer’s cashier.
  • Customers will shop for meat, nuts, and eggs as usual.
  • Shoppers will tell the vendor they have a Protein-Plus Loyalty Card.
  • Vendors will give the customer 50% off the total price, up to $20 per transaction.
  • Customers may shop with multiple vendors the same day.
  • There is a limit of $20 per transaction.

Eligible Products: All food must be New Mexico grown. Beef, bison, lamb, poultry, pork, fish, sausage, beef sticks, jerky, pecans, pistachios, and eggs.

Not eligible: Hot, ready-to-eat food, beans, peanuts, other legumes, and dairy.
