FreshRx Summer Cohort

By August 3, 2026News

The FreshRx program just launched a summer cohort in Albuquerque’s South Valley to provide fresh local produce bags to 15 families enrolled in Presbyterian Healthcare Service’s Smart Moves Program. FreshRx is a produce prescription program run by the NMFMA that provides nutritious, New Mexico grown fruits and vegetables to help patients manage diet-related conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure. Produce Prescriptions like FreshRx are especially effective when combined with other programming, such as cooking classes, rehabilitation sessions, or lifestyle medicine. The program blends physical activity, nutrition education, social-emotional content, and behavior change strategies to foster long-term healthy habits. The produce provided in the FreshRx bags is grown and aggregated by Black Mesa Farm of San Felipe Pueblo and distributed through the Indian Pueblo Entrepreneur Center.

This FreshRx Summer Cohort will wrap at the end of August, with more cohorts planned around the state through October. Look for more updates on the FreshRX program in our next newsletter.
