On Sunday, August 30, during Red & Green day at the Rail Yards Market, the NMFMA joined artist Jade Cruz, the Rail Yards Market organizers, and the City of Albuquerque for a celebration of the completion of Corazon del Chile, a new mural celebrating chile, local food, and the Barelas neighborhood. The project was the culmination of a partnership that started in 2025 to uplift culturally significant local foods and the people who grow, prepare, and share it. The mural also acknowledges the significance of the Double Up Food Bucks program that helps make it possible for all members of our communities to enjoy locally grown food. Attendees heard from Mayor Tim Keller, the City of Albuquerque’s Arts and Culture Department, Public Art Department, the NMFMA, Rail Yards Market Manager, Alaska Piper, and artist Jade Cruz and their assistants. All spoke to the importance of community coming together around local art, local food, and what we can achieve when we come together.Â
The Rail Yards Market is open Sundays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. through October. However, you can view the mural any day by heading down 2nd Street in Barelas along the Rail Yards.Â
